An Invitation to Discuss the Future of Wallerawang

Civic Ballroom
Lithgow, NSW

Since taking ownership of the Wallerawang Power Station in September 2020, our vision has been to create a vibrant world-class precinct that reinstates the site as the heartbeat of the local community.

Ultimately, we expect a diverse range of uses on site including industrial, commercial, tourism, residential and recreational. The first major project with a formal development application in place is for the $400 million Wallerawang 9 Battery Project. The battery energy storage system would connect to the existing 330kV Wallerawang substation, help to unlock the potential for renewable energy generation and provide stability to the NSW electricity grid.

We are also now exploring the possibility of an energy from waste facility (EfW) as an important addition to the region’s portfolio of energy generation and storage facilities. We believe it would be beneficial to our community for several reasons including:

  • Modern technology and world-class emissions standards ensure health and safety;
  • It uses waste as a resource, rather than sending it all to landfills;
  • It would provide reliable power and heat which would attract additional developments and create new jobs;
  • It would be a progressive part of the development of our precinct - taking up less than 2% of the total site.

We know interest in this topic is high, and many of you have questions. Having accurate, up-to-date information is critical to ensure constructive dialogue and informed decision making.
